Excellent performance of (WD Black) SSD as advertised. Really transformed macos compared to the storage bottleneck with other docking stations. Useful and functional expansion slots. Placing the dock under Mac Mini is not a real option as it blocks the power switch. Great packaging and delivery.

Audio Jack is Worthless

I am writing regarding the Mate Mini dock and its advertised inclusion of a “rear audio jack for speakers.”

Based on my testing so far and my review of how the device presents itself to macOS, the rear 3.5 mm jack does not appear to function as an audio output in the way a reasonable user would expect. The Mate Mini does not enumerate as an audio device in macOS, and there is no indication that the dock includes a DAC or routes digital audio from the Mac mini to that jack.

While the product page does state that a rear audio jack is present, a reasonable user would interpret “rear audio jack for speakers” on a Mac mini dock to mean a functional audio output comparable to the Mac mini’s own headphone jack or to audio-capable docks. In practice, this is not the case.

I believe this feature description should be clarified to explicitly state that: one, the Mate Mini does not provide audio output functionality, and, two, the rear 3.5 mm jack is not connected to a DAC or macOS audio routing.

I am sharing this feedback in good faith, with the hope that future customers are not misled (as I was) by an understandable assumption about the product’s capabilities.

Used with WD Black SSD, works as advertised, the ethernet port runs full speed, the unit is silent, average temp for my usage (photo editing) is 40C. Recommended.
